INBRAIN Neuroelectronics has the pleasure to inform
that Jurriaan Bakker has joined INNERVIA as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
8 July 2021, Barcelona, Spain
Jurriaan has 15+ years of experience in the research and development of medical devices. His expertise area is on bringing innovative technology into Class III Active Implantable Medical Devices such as neuromodulation systems (brain, spinal cord) and lead the development from a start-up phase towards commercialization.
In his role as CTO of INNERVIA, he will be responsible for the strategic development and execution of graphene core technology designed to decode nerve signals into medical solutions in the field of bioelectronic therapies with the objective to improve patient's quality of life.
"Two decades in academic hospitals and MedTech companies, taught me a synergy between Pharma and MedTech is required to enable personalized, precision Medicine. No patient is the same, neither their progressing disease states nor its interaction with different treatments.
Consequently, to develop new impactful devices, those need to be personalized, and adaptive. A technology push alone is not sufficient. Instead, we need intensive collaborations in the healthcare eco-system, involving MedTech, Pharma, academics, clinicians, patients, and regulatory authorities. Existing bio-electronic implants, use metal-based interfaces to modulate the electrical signals in nerves, with limitations for improving resolution, and electronics miniaturization. With graphene, and its unique physical properties, we bring a disruptive technology, that will build the new generation of implant technologies to enable new synergies and improved personalized medicine" said Jurriaan Bakker.
Prior to joining INNERVIA, Jurriaan was Director of Product Development at ONWARD (formerly GTX Medical), a medical technology company developing and commercializing innovative therapies to enable functional recovery for people with spinal cord injuries. Before ONWARD, Jurriaan worked at Medtronic after Sapiens Steering Brain Stimulation acquisition, and at Erasmus University Medical Center. Jurriaan holds a PhD in Medicine and Health from the Erasmus University Medical Center, and a master's degree in Applied Physics from Delft University of Technology.
"Jurriaan brings a tremendous amount of neurotechnology expertise that is instrumental in the collaboration with a partner like Merck, we could not have hoped for a better leader to drive this partnership forward!"said Carolina Aguilar, Chief Executive Officer and Co Founder of INBRAIN with Jose A. Garrido, Chief Scientific Officer & Founder of INBRAIN
